about Uarnet
History
Starting from 1993 state enterprise “Research and Telecommnication centre “Ukrainian Academic Research Network” of Institute For Condensed Matter Physics of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine – in short UARNet works with information exchange and provision of access to Internet network; it has significant experience in the sphere of computer networks, of digital and analogue data transfer and development of Internet in Ukraine.
In 1993 Uarnet network with the assistance of Swedish space corporation built its own satellite connection channel to global information networks. This was the first first-hand (directly from Ukraine) connection to the global Internet network.
Uarnet went through the process of Internet rise in Ukraine – from the voice frequency channel to Internet with the speed 9600 b/sec through Warsaw and satellite connection channel to the modern high-speed optical lines that meet all requirements of modern Internet communications, such as high quality video conferences, voile traffic, corporative networks, scientific information transfer in mega huge volumes etc.
Technical capacity
Today the output of external Uarnet channels is over 2000 Mbit/sec (first – 1000 Mbit/sec, second – 622 Mbit/sec, third – 155 Mbit/sec and reserve – 1000 Mbit/sec). Uarnet network has its own fully-featured representations in Lviv, Kiev, Pivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Lutsk, Dnipropetrovsk and other cities that are interconnected by high speed connection lines. Uarnet has its own connection to the Ukrainian traffic exchange UA_IX with the channel speed 1000 Mbit/sec.
Since 1994 Uarnet has full membership in European Network Co-ordination Centre RIPE, as well as its own dedicated autonomic system (AS3255) and a huge block of IP addresses that is planned for expansion in order to provide new users with the address space.
Within last years Uarnet is building its own information transfer network. The need in high-speed connection to Internet stipulates the need in high-speed data transfer channels that can be obtained by fibreglass technologies. Main offices in Lviv are interconnected by fibreglass connection lines. Uarnet is currently working on the re-connection of its main clients by fibreglass lines, that provides stable high-speed work in Internet network.
Services
Uarnet provides various technical options of access to Internet network: by dial-up (phone) line, by dedicated (direct connection) line, by radio channel, through big local access networks (LAN, MAN).
Uarnet registers domain names ua, com.ua, gov.ua, org.uaetc, and also administrates geographical domain lviv.ua since its creation.
Uarnet provides web-resources hosting on its own technical equipment both in Ukraine and outside; provides location for companion UNIX-servers on its own technical centres with high-speed connection to Internet.
More than 15 000 users enjoy Uarnet services. Among them:
- state authorities (tax authorities, city and region administrations, state administrations) – over 300 institutions;
- academic institutions (universities, institutes, academies) - over 400 institutions;
- National Science Academy of Ukraine – over 100 institutions;
- State enterprises, banks – over 200.
Main aim of Uarnet network in the sphere of providing Internet services is meeting growing customer’s demands on highest possible quality level.
